UTS Architecture is on show at the 2025 Venice Arc

UTS Architecture is on show at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Our very own Associate Professor David Pigram @davepigram (@supermanoeuvre) and the UTS AFRL team @afrl.uts —Shirley Tam, Tran Dang, James & Gwyn Jones—contribute to “(n)Permanences Tractatus (Traité de l’Impermanence)”, exhibited in the Arsenale as part of the international selection.

Led by New-Territories (f.Roche-S/he), the installation metabolises the toxic aftermath of industrial agriculture—transforming invasive algae blooms, born of chemical fertilisers, into a design protocol that questions permanence, linear progress, and ecological detachment. Through material experimentation and computational design, the project embraces erosion, entropy, and a nomadic architecture of collapse and renewal.

UTS Architecture is on show at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Our very own Rafael Luna @raluze presents “Extinction Plan” through his firm PRAUD @praud_official - an architectural vision for Seoul’s public schools, designed with a 30-year life span in response to a rapidly aging, low-birth-rate society. The installation showcases his “Wild Futures” system, developed at UTS, now applied to a typology on the brink of disappearance.

UTS’s participation in the Venice Architecture B

UTS’s participation in the Venice Architecture Biennale is part of a proud tradition of global engagement. In 2012, Professors Anthony Burke @anthony_burke__ and Gerard Reinmuth @gerardreinmuth curated the Australian Pavilion’s Formation exhibition, a groundbreaking moment that reflected UTS’s national leadership in professional practice and practice-ready education.

At the heart of this year’s exhibition is our very own Professor of Practice Emily McDaniel, a curator and artist from the Kalari Clan of the Wiradjuri nation in Central New South Wales who is a key member of the HOME Creative Sphere. @emilymc_d @home_as_country

This is the second time our professors have been part of the Australian Pavilion’s curatorial leadership, a unique achievement unmatched by any other School of Architecture in the country.
