In this technically focused professional practice subject, you’ll explore how performance criteria and constraints inform design. You’ll learn to align the technical and material aspects of architecture with the design strategies you utilise in your studio subject.

Throughout the process of creating a professional drawing package that adheres to industry standards, you will be asked to produce a drawing index across multiple stages and detailed drawings.

In addition to documentation, the subject will ask students to challenge and interrogate the material systems typically used in Australian construction. A focus on quality and performance standards, the impact on the Country and the environment, and the whole-life carbon impact of the selected material systems will be undertaken.

And that’s a WRAP! We have just concluded our final global subject for 2025!

Students from the Masters of Architecture travelled to Abu Dhabi as part of the ‘Quantifying Quality of the Urban Space’ to explore the incredibly unique environment and culture of Abu Dhabi. The projects
created by students challenged current urban fabrics in Abu Dhabi, and proposed alternative solutions for urban form that focus on the quality of the urban space.

The studio would not have been possible without the help and support of so many people, primarily the leadership at Abu Dhabi University, and especially to Dr. Apostolo Kyriazis, and the Chancellor of ADU Professor Ghassan Aouad for being incredible gracious hosts and making our experience an unforgettable one. Special thanks to Ambassador Ridwaan Jadwat @ridwaanjadwat for attending the final
exhibition, seeing the students work and giving them an opportunity that very few people have.

Also special thanks to Jordan Mathers and Jonathan Knapp from SJB Sydney @aboutsjb for making the 15 hour trip around the world to continue their involvement in what has now become a 5-year ongoing project that keeps growing with no signs of slowing down!

Finally, a massive and special thanks to the amazing 15 students who made the trip – you have all been incredible and it was an absolute pleasure to experience Abu Dhabi through your insights and perspectives!
