A huge congratulations to our Master of Architectu

A huge congratulations to our Master of Architecture and Master of Research students @marlinhannam, @jamesss.gomez, @nancyysunn, @laibajml, @jaay_ciii and Josef Sfara on publishing their research at this year’s Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia Conference (CAADRIA).

Their work represents an impressive and diverse body of research, exploring the use of multi-objective evolutionary computation to reimagine and reconfigure urban places across a range of locations and ecological contexts. These projects were developed through a Master’s design studio led by UTS academic Associate Professor Mohammed Makki.
The students travelled to Taiwan to present their work to the international computational design community, where they contributed to rich and engaging discussions with leading architectural and computational experts from around the world.

The Master of Architecture program invites you to the “Quantifying Quality of the Urban Space” Public Exhibition.

Date: Friday 22 May
Time: 5:00pm–6:00pm
Location: UTS Architecture Building (Building 6), Level 5 Gallery

The work on display is part of the ‘Quantifying Quality’ Travelling Master Studio held in December 2025 led by Associate professor Mohammed Makki. The studio explores how both quantitative and qualitative data can inform urban design by integrating measurable environmental factors with the more intangible aspects of urban life, such as social experience, cultural context, and human perception. Students developed alternative urban futures for selected suburbs in Abu Dhabi using evolutionary computation and advanced generative design methods, producing proposals that are both analytically grounded and responsive to lived experience. By combining climatic, environmental, and socio-cultural data, the projects present contextually sensitive and innovative approaches to urban design. Delivered collaboratively between the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Abu Dhabi University (ADU), with international exchange and on-site engagement in Abu Dhabi, and supported by industry partners SJB Sydney, the studio reflects a strong integration of research, education, and professional practice.
