Shahar Cohen & Amy Seo of Second Edition with Robert Plumb Build, Tiffany Liew, and Andrew Burges Architects
This studio delves into the examination of deconstruction and reuse of building materials within the local context of Sydney, on the lands of the Cameregal, Dharug, Dharawal, Gadi and Ku-ring-gai People.
Utilising surrounding building stock as an inventory to design with, this approach shifts the conventional design paradigm by starting with the materials in lieu of form or function, whilst seeking to unravel the potential and feasibility of this method within the local context. Students engage in a process that challenges traditional design methodologies, encouraging a thoughtful reconsideration of the built environment. The studio aims to foster a resourceful mindset by emphasising the significance of material availability. Through this exploration, participants gain insights into the practical application of deconstruction and reuse, contributing to the discourse on circular design.
