Tom Rivard of REALMstudios
This studio project looks at remaking the city in the context of our global polycrisis, by re-imagining its future, excavating its past, and building on the ruins of the present. The work explores new roles for architects and new ways of imagining the city, decoupled from legacy systems, but building on their material and operational remnants.
Bigger than architecture, it involves transformations in politics, economics and culture. In this, the carbon-formed metropolis, the city of consumption becomes the site for the invention of versions of a new world, a multidimensional project for architecture in which alternative futures of the city manifest, revealing new opportunities for architectural agency.
The future will be made by the stories we tell today; this Studio imagines some of those futures, and tells some of those stories.
