Creative Pub-Culture constructs a systematic machine that creates a safe and inclusive space for a diverse community. The project challenges the functionality of the classic Australian pub. People are not just consuming meals and in need of basic accommodation; workers are not only served alcoholic drinks and goods for consumption. Instead, the pub becomes a self-producing community where consumers also take part in the process. It is an agonistic space that allows it to proclaim itself in any environment, culture, or situation as a platform for liberated speech through artistic performance. Rather than memorialising pub iconography as an archival project, the architecture embodies and perpetuates the spirit of Newtown, a community characterized by openness, acceptance and creativity.
