Everything is changing silently, nothing is static forever. The attraction of landscape lies in its uncertainty and non-stationary state. Therefore, it is important to explore the potential value and energy of the region itself and show it to the greatest extent.
In the previous exploration, we studied the influence of mountains on the Yangtze River and the influence of water flow on geography. The scouring and erosion of water flow over time has created diverse landforms. There are many sediment islands in the Yangtze River that are formed by water erosion and deposition. The object of this study is in Huangshi City, Hubei Province, about 100 kilometers away from Wuhan City, and the location is also in the mainstream of the Yangtze River. The islands in the river and some small sand dunes around them have been formed due to the scouring of the water over the years. However, their shapes are different in different periods. The reason is that when the rainy season comes, the water level rises sharply, part of the island is submerged, and there are still some slightly higher areas exposed to the water. In dry periods, most islands will be exposed to the water. And with the influence of long-term flowing water, the shape and boundary of the island will also be changed by the influence of the current, mainly corrosion. I wanted to take advantage of that by building trails on the island and connecting the affiliated islands. Because of the influence of the water level, the natural topography is used to guide the flow of rising water or submerge the island, and to buffer seasonal flooding on the island through different plant communities at different heights, which would provide varies landscapes in different seasons.
The island has many plant species and is also a habitat for many wild birds. The place was originally a city dominated by industry. Due to the destruction of waters by the environment, their habitats are not valued by people or even destroyed. In my proposal, what I want to focus on is the characteristics of the landscape itself and improve it. At the same time, it will reshape the habitat of the biota, and build a viewing structure for guiding people to appreciate the original identity of the site, and can mobilize people to understand the value of nature itself.
