Moore Park Golf course is an anachronism. 20 hectares of monoculture is excised from one of the densest parts of Sydney. It has limited ecological value, severs connections to Centennial Parklands, and serves only a dwindling demographic of recreation users. Yet the landscape has the potential to provide health and enjoyment for tens of thousands of people.
This project imagined the conversion of Moore Park and its varied topography into a big park to improve ecological connections for water and biota, rekindle the Aboriginal connection with this country, offer future parkland equitably for vulnerable communities, build community knowledge capacity of the environment, accommodate nature-based sports and cultural events, and offer a model for food security and water health in the oncoming era of climate change.
