Working with Sydney Living Museums, this project addresses relationships between social history, material culture and interior space. By reimagining the interior of Sydney’s Elizabeth Hay House as a creative maker-space, this studio explores space planning and social history in one of Sydney’s most prestigious residences and links its past with the next generation of creative professionals. After consulting with local artists and designers, students explore speculative design options for this historic site that aim to continue its artisanal history and give its interior new use. Additionally, students explore the re-assemblage of existing furniture in the interior to fit each new artisan’s unique creative needs.
